FAQ

Where is your pottery made?

All pieces are handmade by me in my studio in Oxford, Massachusetts.

Are your glazes food safe?

Yes! I only use lead-free glazes, and unless otherwise noted in the product description, all pieces are food safe.

Can I put your ceramics in the dishwasher or microwave?

Absolutely. My pottery is designed for everyday use and is durable. You can safely use it in the microwave and dishwasher, but I don’t recommend placing it in a preheated oven.

What about woodfired pieces?

For woodfired items, I recommend hand washing to preserve the unique surface and texture.

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship within 3–5 business days and are carefully packed to ensure they arrive safely. If something arrives damaged, please email me within 3 days of receiving your order so we can arrange a replacement.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! International orders also ship within 3–5 business days. Please be aware that your country may charge import taxes, which are the responsibility of the buyer.

Do you accept custom orders?

Yes, I love working on custom projects! Just email me with your ideas and we’ll take it from there. Please note that custom pieces are non-refundable.

Why doesn’t my piece look exactly like the photo?

Because everything is handmade, slight variations in color, size, and shape are totally normal—and part of the charm! If you're ever unhappy with your piece, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I'm happy to offer store credit or a replacement if needed, though I do not offer refunds.

Do you offer Wholesale?

Absolutely! Please reach out via email and we can work something out together

Meet Carmen

Handcrafted ceramics made to bring beauty, color, and joy to everyday life — one piece at a time.

I’m a self-taught ceramic artist with a deep love for handmade objects, thoughtful design, and all things beautifully useful. Clay found its way into my life in 2016, and it quickly became the heart of my creative practice.

I was born and raised in Switzerland, where creativity ran through everything — our home was filled with paint, fabric, clay, and endless messes we were encouraged to make. My parents believed in making things from scratch and gave us full freedom to explore. I still remember the joy of squishing clay between my fingers as a child, fully absorbed in shaping something from nothing. That feeling has never really left.

Before discovering ceramics, I studied fashion design, and that experience continues to influence my work — especially how I think about form, texture, and color. I love creating collections of pieces that feel related, but not identical. Color plays a big role in my process: I’m drawn to how it shifts mood and transforms space.

Each piece I make is designed to feel good in your hand and add a quiet sense of joy to daily life — a mug that makes your morning better, a bowl that fits just right. I value simplicity, subtle variation, and the unmistakable mark of the hand. No two pieces are exactly alike, and that’s the beauty of it.

From rolling out clay and troubleshooting kiln mishaps to packing orders and scrubbing floors — I run CarmiClay as a one-woman studio. Clay has taught me patience, rhythm, and how to embrace change. It’s a process I’m still learning from every day.

Thanks for being here — and if you're local or curious to get your hands in some clay, check out the Happenings page for upcoming workshops and events!
